Okay, so I found these delightful rules by chance, and wanted to give them a go!
They are written by Donald Featherstone who I think has it right, emphasis on the fun wargame.
So I wanted a game of Ancient battles preferably with Chariots as I have always wanted a go of this period. Who do I turn to for good examples of Army and period?
Well the short of the long answer is Phil Barker.
His games DBA and DBM are fantastic, as the armies per period of history are just brought to life, the rules are excellent too.
So with a cheeky quick calculation I thought I would see the Sumerians fending off another Hyskos gathering, for this I used the ratio of 1 figure equals 10 men.
All I needed to do was create an initiative turn / turn sequence.
Roll 1d6 highest goes first.
Winner is first to activate a unit, followed by the next player, until all units have been activated then re roll initiative.
Halt, move, shoot or melee.
Another thing that I thought about was light chariots, now these could have been a complete nightmare; however I gave them ago as counting 1pt instead of the usual 2pts per melee count.
The melee system
Infantry 1pt per figure
Cavalry 2pts per figure
Every 5 pts = 1d6
Roll add up/2 = men lost
Straight after roll 1d6 x men left
Lowest retreats a full move( hence the halt activation).
